Hiring, Employment and Personnel Policies

Employment and Personnel Policies

Employment and Personnel Policies for faculty are governed by MTSU policies and administered by the Office of the University Provost and Division of Business and Finance’s Human Resource Services. This section is divided into resources that pertain to all full-time employees (including faculty, tenured and tenure-track faculty, full-time temporary faculty) and adjuncts. This section ends with information on hiring.

Employment and personnel information relevant to all full-time employees, including faculty.

The Employee Handbook serves as a general overview of the benefits and opportunities available to all university employees, including faculty.

The following policies apply to all “regular full-time faculty” (as defined by #202 Faculty Definition, Roles, Responsibilities, and Appointment Types.)

Part-time/Adjunct Faculty Employment Policies

MTSU Policy #202 defines part-time adjunct faculty as “professional staff members of businesses, industries and other agencies and organizations who are appointed on a part-time basis to carry out teaching, research, or service functions.” Hiring part-time adjunct faculty requires compliance with Policy 801 Personnel Transactions. The following policies and processes govern hiring part-time or adjunct faculty.

Information and resources specific to part-time or adjunct faculty are available on the Office of the University Provost’s Adjunct Information site. The Adjunct Information site includes Faculty Development Opportunities, and information about Advising, Financial Aid, Forms, Calendars and External Resources.
