Textbook Adoption

Textbook Adoption is completed through the Adoption & Insights Portal (AIP). Each faculty member must use the AIP to adopt their course textbook(s). This ensures faculty have the correct edition and title of the publication(s).

Phillips Bookstore is unable to add any section without written approval. If a new section is added, written approval must be sent to Jennifer Carver. Publisher adoptions and rollovers from previous semesters cannot be accepted.

Questions? Contact Jennifer Carver (Jennifer.Brown@mtsu.edu), Phillips Bookstore Manager, for assistance with AIP or the First Day® program.

How to Use the Adoption & Insights Portal (AIP)

Important Notes on Textbook Adoptions

  • Log in to the Adoption & Insights Portal (AIP) and select your course materials each term.
  • Even if your course does not require a textbook, mark it accordingly in AIP.
  • If you are using Open Educational Resources (OER), add a note in AIP.
  • Adoptions do not roll over from previous semesters—you must resubmit every term.
  • Out-of-print or older editions are not guaranteed; the bookstore will attempt to source when possible.

First Day® Program

The First Day® program provides students with digital course materials on or before the first day of class—often at a reduced cost.

How to Participate in First Day® Program
  • Email Jennifer Carver (Jennifer.Brown@mtsu.edu) with your request.
  • Include both the course and section number in the email.
  • Ensure the textbook adoption is entered in AIP before requesting First Day® confirmation.

Why Timely Textbook Adoptions Matter

  • Supports scholarships, financial aid, and athletics processes that require materials to be obtained through the bookstore.
  • Ensures availability for the start of classes by allowing time to source and stock materials.
  • Provides day-one access to required digital platforms (e.g., MindTap, Pearson+, MyLab, courseware).
  • Keeps costs down by enabling used, rental, and digital options.
  • Meets federal requirements for listing course material costs at registration.

Helpful Tips from Phillips Bookstore

  • Some departments designate a “Super User” to manage adoptions for the entire department. Consider this to streamline submissions.
  • Having one designated contact for First Day® adoptions can improve accuracy and communication.
